The Arbutus Recreation and Parks council is a community volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation of our environment and the development of recreational opportunities for the citizens of the Arbutus Community.The Council got its start back in 1947 when the Arbutus Community Association saw a need for developing a recreation program for the children in the community.After two years of promoting recreation, the committee requested a release from the Community Association to become the Community Playground Recreation Association, Inc.With the formation of the Department of Recreation and Parks, the county schools and grounds were made available to the community to hold their recreation activities, of which baseball, basketball, and teen center were the first. In 1960 the association decided to change its name, so as to eliminate the playground only connotation, to the Community Recreation Council, Inc.In January 1963, the Council in accordance with a revised and adopted Constitution and By-Laws, because the Arbutus Recreation Council, Inc. A few years later, the name was changed again to the present, Arbutus Recreation and Parks Council.
